Nelda Luce Blair was appointed to the University of Houston System Board of Regents by Governor Rick Perry in 2008 and will serve through August 31, 2013. For fiscal year 2012-2013, Chair Blair was elected to serve a second term as chairman of the Board, is an ex officio member of each of the standing committees, a board liaison for Governmental Relations, and serves as a member of the Executive and Compensation Committee.
Blair is president and owner of The Blair Law Firm, P. C., and is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in three areas of real estate law. A former litigator and 30 year attorney, Blair now provides legal consultation services to a select clientele. For two years, Blair litigated cases in front of a real judge and TV camera as part of a FOX television series, and she continues to periodically appear as a legal commentator on CNN, FOX News, MSNBC and Court TV. She has authored over 100 articles published in professional journals, and is a frequent public speaker.
Blair serves as chairman of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as a director on the Board of The Woodlands Township. She is a past chairman of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, and current board member of the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce. Blair serves as president of the Conroe ISD Education Foundation, and on the Lone Star College System Chancellor's Advisory Council.
Honors include being named one of Houston's Most Influential Women of 2009 by Houston Woman magazine, "Citizen of the Year 2009" by the Greater Houston Women's Chamber, and as a "Hometown Hero" of The Woodlands.
A fifth generation Texan, Blair is an alumna of the University of Houston Law Center, and also holds a bachelor's degree from Baylor University.
