The UH System: Laying the Groundwork for Future Economic Security
BioNanoTechnology/Science & Engineering Research Building - Bring BioNanoTechnology into engineering practice through collaboration with other Houston institutions and businesses and establish a Science & Engineering Research Building.
TLC² GulfStar Grid Initiative - Create a high tech infrastructure to facilitate collaborative research and development among academic institutions in the Houston metropolitan area to address issues of health care, homeland security, environmental protection, energy, and economic development.
Sensor Integration/Predictive Evacuation Pilot Project - Develop detection, analysis, mobilization, and control capabilities to enable effective and efficient around-the-clock, year-round emergency response management decisions within the Gulf Coast region that can be leveraged throughout the United States and elsewhere.
Energy Data Hub - Improve transparency in the energy industry, reform the price discovery process in the energy market, and restore confidence in the market by providing a unique data collection resource for buyers and sellers of energy commodities.
High Technologies Laboratory - Develop and transfer new technology to the Texas economy and enhance related education and training of engineers and computer scientists.
Institute for Clean Energy - Maximize Houston's position as a world energy leader to tackle one of the principal challenges of the 21st century-finding clean and renewable sources of energy.
Institute for Urban Infrastructure Systems - Improve and protect regional infrastructure systems from destruction; achieve more effective maintenance, construction, and system renewal through databases and advanced technologies; and enhance the infrastructure community and workforce.
Center for Economic Enhancement through Travel and Tourism Infrastructure Development - Provide educational programs on tourism infrastructure development for third world and emerging nations; create "development plans" and locate potential sources of financing and other incentives; help needy or targeted nations provide job opportunities, enhanced economic activities, and better global relations.
Center for Supply Chain Research - Scenarios and economic impacts of port consolidation, highway construction, and airport/route expansion. Information technology in the supply chain. Supply chain research areas such as outsourcing, global network design, total cost analyses.
Centers of Excellence for Energy Transmission and Distribution - Address shared concerns in areas of critical importance to the further development and implementation of the U.S. energy grid. A comprehensive educational and research program is required in the areas of power generation, transmission, distribution, and storage.
