Home DepartmentArt, Arte Público Press, Blaffer Gallery, Creative Writing, Music, and Theatre Key FacultyDepartment Chairs and Program Directors Program DescriptionThe new multicultural arts facility would be an addition to the Fine Arts Building and would partner with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts (CWMCA). The facility would include center administrative offices, Arte Público Press administrative offices, 20 faculty offices and studios, four rehearsal spaces, a student gallery, and a 200-seat auditorium for classes and public presentations. In addition, the center would award scholarships for multicultural student artists. Priorities AddressedExtending multicultural education agenda Background and QualificationsThe Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts is now up and running. This facility would augment the CWMCA in three ways: offer enhanced facilities to CWMCA units, extend scholarships to multicultural artists, and offer a home for Arte Público Press. The UH student body is ethnically diverse, and Houston is an international city and a center of Hispanic culture and immigration. Federal Agencies
