The UH System - Policy IssuesIn addition to the development of new programs at the UH System, there are numerous policy issues and federal programs related to science and higher education that have the potential to impact the ways in which we educate students, conduct research, and provide service to our communities. Below you will find information on issues of great importance to our universities that Congress may address this year:
Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) - Ensure that the reauthorization of HEA is a step forward for U.S. higher education.
Federal R&D and Education Budget - Advocate for adequate budgets for federal science agencies and programs.
NASA Reauthorization - Ensure that the UH System's voice is heard in the NASA reauthorization process as well as becoming positioned to take advantage of programs developed as part of the government's space plan.
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) - Support HACU to gain substantial new funding for the nation's 200 Hispanic-serving institutions to improve educational opportunities for Hispanics.
Direct Business Assistance Program - Advocate the continued support of the Small Business Development Center program, which has allowed UH to serve hundreds of thousands of clients since 1984.
Great Cities' Universities Program - Join with other public urban research universities to study the needs that arise in an urban environment and to determine means to address
these unique needs.
