(This legislative update has been assembled by the UH System Office of Governmental Relations and edited by the UH Division of University Advancement as a service to the UH System community.)
On Monday, June 27, UH System Chancellor Jay Gogue appeared before the House Higher Education Committee to testify on the tuition revenue bond bill, which includes one project for each UH System institution. The committee approved the bill, which would fund approximately $2.8 billion in construction projects statewide. However, the Governor, who constitutionally controls what issues come up for discussion during the special session, is limiting debate to public school finance.
As you have no doubt read, the House has passed a public school finance bill and has reported a tax bill from committee by a narrow margin. The Senate adopted their version of public school finance legislation earlier this afternoon, June 30. The House has adjourned until next Tuesday and the Senate until next Wednesday, after the holidays.
Itıs important that legislators hear from faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the UH System. But if you are a member of the faculty or staff (a state employee) wishing to contact your legislator, itıs equally important to follow certain guidelines when you write or fax letters. Go to
