UH System Day in AustinSome 300 students, alumni, faculty, and staff members traveled to Austin Tuesday, February 20, for UH System Day in Austin, a day set aside every two years to visit with elected officials and their staffs and present our case for increased funding. The group was headed by UH System Board of Regents Chairman Leroy Hermes and the entire board, and UH System Chancellor and UH President Jay Gogue, UH-Clear Lake President William Staples, UIH-Downtown President Max Castillo, and UH-Victoria President Tim Hudson. Their first stop in the Capitol was the House of Representatives chamber, where the group was officially welcomed by legislators. The group also visited the Senate chanber. A joint resolution proclaiming February 20 as UH System Day in Austin was adopted and read from the floor. Afterwards, the group spent several hours visiting legislators’ offices. |
