MINUTES OF THE MEETING
BOARD OF REGENTS
ACADEMIC AND STUDENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

November 2, 2004

The Academic and Student Affairs Committee of the University of Houston System Board of Regents convened in the Melcher Board Room of the Athletics/Alumni Center on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. Noting the presence of a quorum, Chairman Gonzalez called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m.

Dr. Strickland announced that there were no action items to be considered by the committee. The following items were presented for information:

1. Academic Presentation – Dr. Jeffrey Morgan, Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Director of the Center for Academic Support and Assessment (CASA) addressed the board regarding the activities of the center. Regent Gonzalez asked if the center worked with the Athletics Department to tutor the athletes. Dr. Strickland will coordinate the effort between the two departments. Dr. Golden asked Dr. Morgan about the space needs of the center. During the discussion that followed, Regent Gonzalez asked that an inventory be provided of the existing swimming pools on campus.

2. FY 2004 Sponsored Research Activity, Division of Research – UH System. Dr. Art Vailas presented the Sponsored Research Activity Report.

All documentation submitted to the Board in support of the foregoing action items, including but not limited to “Passed” agenda items and supporting documentation presented to the Board, is incorporated herein and made a part of these minutes for all purposes.

There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting adjourned at 8:45 a.m.
