The University of Houston System Board of Regents convened in the French Room of The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center on Sunday, April 17, 2005. Noting the presence of a quorum, Chairman O’Connor called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. Chair O’Connor introduced the following guests: Donald J. Foss, incoming Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the University of Houston System and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of the University of Houston; Martin Grenzebach, Grenzebach Glier & Associates; Donald R. Gray, Vice President, University of Wisconsin Foundation; and Carlos Machado, new student regent from the University of Houston. Dr. Gogue discussed the campaign process, selection of the consultant, and the assessment of the University’s readiness for a campaign. Dr. Gogue also updated the Board on the search for a new Vice Chancellor/Vice President for University Advancement. Mr. Gray gave a presentation to the board regarding the role regents play in a fundraising campaign. Following Mr. Gray’s presentation, Dr. Strickland, Dr. Castillo, Dr. Staples, and Dr. Hudson discussed their fundraising priorities. The regents asked questions regarding the length of the campaign, process of identifying potential donors, and coordination of the University and the foundations. Mr. Grenzebach discussed the time-line for the campaign and the next steps to be taken. The regents asked for a copy of Mr. Gray’s PowerPoint presentation. In absence of further business, the Board adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
