Landry's Restaurants, Inc.


Tilman J. Fertitta was appointed to the UH System Board of Regents in 2009 by Governor Rick Perry and will serve through August 31, 2015.  For the fiscal year 2010, he currently serves as Vice Chair of Facilities, Construction & Master Planning Committee. 

He is the Chairman, President, CEO and controlling shareholder of Landry’s Restaurants, Inc., one of America’s leading casual dining, entertainment, gaming and hospitality companies.  Landry’s owns and operates numerous restaurants, hotel and entertainment venues throughout the United States, including the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the Kemah Boardwalk, several restaurant chains such as Chart House, Landry’s Seafood House, Rainforest Café, Saltgrass Steakhouse, T-Rex Cafe, Cadillac Bar, as well as the Signature Series:  Vic and Anthony’s, Brenner’s Steakhouse, Grotto Ristorante, La Griglia, Pesce, Willie G’s Seafood & Steakhouse, the Downtown Aquarium and the Tower of Americas in San Antonio, Texas.  He also is the President of Fertitta Hospitality, LLC a hotel, development and entertainment company that operates the San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center and Inn at the Ballpark, among others.  Fertitta is also the owner of Post Oak Motor Cars, Ltd. – The South Texas Rolls-Royce, Bentley Dealership.

Fertitta and Landry’s have been featured in nearly every financial and industry publication, from The Wall Street Journal to U.S. News and World Report to Nation’s Restaurant News.  Mr. Fertitta has appeared on numerous national business programs and has been a featured speaker at many hospitality conferences and seminars and is one of the foremost authorities in the restaurant and hospitality fields.

He has been honored with many awards; in 1985, he won the Residential Builders Model Award from the American Institute of Builders Design.  In 1986, the Houston Jaycees named him one of “12 outstanding young Houstonians.” Ernst & Young honored him with the 1997 Houston Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and in 1998 he was honored with the Legacy Award  for his creativity and design of the Kemah Boardwalk.  Fertitta was a commencement speaker for  1998 and 2004 graduating classes of the University of Houston.  In 2004, Fertitta was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame.  He is the second-youngest inductee ever to receive this honor next to Michael Dell.

Fertitta devotes a substantial amount of time to civic service and currently serves as Chairman of the Houston Children’s Charity, the Houston Police Foundation and is on the Executive Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  He also serves on the following boards: Texas Heart Institute, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Sam Houston Area Council - Boy Scouts of America, Central Houston, Inc., and the Greater Houston Partnership.
